Apple is reportedly close to an agreement with OpenAI for integrating ChatGPT with iOS 18.

The latest report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman firms up persistent rumors about a partnership ahead of AI announcements expected at Apple's developer conference WWDC in June.

"The two sides have been finalizing terms for a pact to use ChatGPT features in Apple’s iOS 18," said Gurman. We don't know yet what those features will be, but insiders say Apple might leverage generative AI to improve existing apps and services. That could include summarization capabilities for Messages and Safari, and improved Spotlight Search on the home screen.

According to The New York Times, Apple is also planning a major overhaul of Siri, meaning the voice assistant could get way smarter and more capable with a generative AI boost. Speaking of voice assistants, OpenAI is reportedly developing its own voice assistant. But it's unclear whether that is a part of the conversation with Apple, or whether it will be positioned as a Siri competitor.

To make things more confusing, Apple is also reportedly in talks with Google about bringing Gemini's generative AI features to Apple devices, but according to the outlet, those talks haven't led to an agreement yet. Still with us? OpenAI's Monday livestream might be about the alleged voice assistant, and the very next day, Google will hold its developer conference, Google I/O, which is expected to have Gemini and other generative AI announcements.

It's a lot to keep track of, but it's all unfolding over the next month and kicking off on Monday.
