New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole continued making steady progress as he works to make his return from an elbow issue this spring.

Cole, who remains on the injured list, threw 29 pitches in a bullpen session at Tropicana Field ahead of the Yankees' 7-2 loss against the Tampa Bay Rays.

He said he felt "pretty good" in what was his longest bullpen session since beginning his throwing program. Cole also mentioned his velocity was around 89 miles per hour and that he threw 13 breaking balls during the session.

Cole is eligible to come off the injured list May 27, but it's likely he won't return to the Yankees until the middle of June. He will need a full ramp up similar to that of spring training, which would more or less take six weeks.

Cole is scheduled to remain in Tampa so that he can throw another bullpen at the team's complex early in the coming week.
