The Cascadia Cup kicks into high gear as the Portland Timbers host their American Pacific Northwest rivals for the first time this season.

The Timbers are set to take on the Seattle Sounders on Sunday, May 12 at Providence Park in Portland, Ore. Both teams have identical records to start the season, with two wins and five draws to give them 11 points through 10 games in 2024.

Led by Evander's four goals and three assists, the Timbers have greatly outperformed their xG so far this season. They have 20 goals scored on 11.8 xG, which tells us they've scored some incredible goals.

On the other side, Raul Ruidiaz already has six goals scored this season and the Sounders have a balanced goal-scoring attack, with seven other players having scored so far this year. That list includes veteran forward Jordan Morris, Brazilian forward Leo Chu, and new signing Pedro de la Vega, who has battled injuries early on this season.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch it across the world, kickoff times and the latest lineup news.

Portland Timbers vs. Seattle Sounders lineups, team news

Timbers coach Phil Neville welcomed three injured players — EvanderMarvin Loria, and Miguel Araujo — back to training on Friday, a good sign that they could be back in the matchday squad come Sunday.

Portland Timbers predicted XI (4-3-3, right to left): Crepeau (GK) — Mosquera, Araujo, McGraw, Bravo — Paredes, Williamson, Ayala — Moreno, Mora, Evander.

Portland Timbers subs (9): TBC

Reports out of Sounders training late this week said that Pedro de la Vega was a full participant in training, a huge boost for the club. They had been counting on the Argentine playmaker to be able to create goals all season, but he's so far only managed two appearances and one start.

Seattle Sounders predicted XI (3-4-3 right to left): Sirois (GK) — Campbell, Waterman, Alvarez — Ruan, Wanyama, Choiniere, Edwards — Duke, Toye, Lassiter.

Seattle Sounders subs (9): TBC

Portland Timbers vs. Seattle Sounders prediction

Josh Atencio and Joao Paulo have a huge task on their hands to keep Evander off the board. It may be too big a task. Playing in front of the raucous home crowd, look for Evander, Santiago Moreno, and Antony to take the game to the Sounders. The Timbers should just have the edge here and make Brian Schmetzer's seat even hotter.

Prediction: Portland Timbers 2-1 Seattle Sounders
