There's no doubt about it – Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie were absolute Noughties icons.

Their show The Simple Life was the stuff of legend, seeing the two wealthy socialites attempt a normal life by living with a “middle class” American family and working low-paid jobs. And the hilarity and iconic lines ensued.

And now, twenty years later, they will be returning to our screens with a new TV show. Paris' announcement of the show on Instagram included the caption: “New Era. Same Besties. 👯‍♀️ Coming soon to Peacock.”

The post shows a staticky TV screen, with the sounds of Paris and Nicole squealing on The Simple Life set all those years ago. Talk about nostalgic.

Fans have gone wild on social media at this news, with one calling it “a pop culture renaissance”, another describing the announcement as “beyond iconic”.

So what do we know so far? Well, the details of what exactly Paris and Nicole will be doing on their new show are being kept tightly under wraps, so we're not clear on whether we will be getting a Simple Life reboot, or a completely new TV show. Both are now parents and married, so maybe it could be based on their lives now.

This comes after two seasons of Hilton's solo series Paris in Love, which explored her journey as she prepared to marry Carter Reum and welcome their first child, as well as her second child, her first daughter, via a surrogate. Meanwhile, Nicole also has had two children with her husband, Good Charlotte musician Joel Madden.

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie's friendship stretches back quite a way, with Paris posting a seriously nostalgic collage of childhood, teenage and twenty-something pics of the duo on Instagram, no doubt priming us for what's to come.
