An Irvine singer/songwriter inspired to crack the music scene by her idol Taylor Swift has been announced as a headliner at Glasgow's legendary King Tut’s.

Abbie Gordon will perform as part of the 10th anniversary line-up of the venue's Summer Nights series. The seven week run of gigs showcases ‘the best rising talent Scotland has to offer’ and Abbie will top an all-female bill on Thursday, August 8, joined by Katie Nicoll, Sinead Tait and Hana Jane.

Abbie, 17, says she was first inspired by the power of a great song at the age of six by Taylor, and her love of performing found early outlets in dance and musical theatre. Locked down in 2020 and inspired by Taylor, Olivia Rodrigo, Lizzy McAlpine and Inhaler, she began playing around on piano and guitar and writing her own songs.

Abbie is no stranger to Irvine audiences now, having played the Harbour Arts Centre on the ‘Hit The Road’ tour in 2023 and as support to former Silencers singer JJ Gilmour in December as well as The Northern Way’s 'Big Gig Night’.

The Summer Nights headline show will be her second gig at King Tut’s, after supporting new West Lothian singer Kerr Mercer at his sold-out gig there in March.

Abbie, currently a student on the HNC Music course at Ayrshire College, said: "It’s an incredible honour to play at Tut’s, especially for my first ever headline show in Glasgow. I had a great time there supporting Kerr and I’m so excited to be invited back. It’s been the launch-pad for so many music careers, like Oasis, Lewis Capaldi and Paolo Nutini so it’s a real milestone for any singer starting out."
