Garth Brooks On Trisha Yearwood’s Greatness, His Amazon Live Concert & Treating People Right

“We kind of do a hard kinda line,” the just-back-from-the-Vatican superstar adds of the artificial divisions imposed on his genre and art overall. “And the truth is the people that listen to country music are all walks of life.”

For “The Dance” singer, even after all these decades packing stadiums around the world and hometown dive bars, it’s about reaching the fans.

“Let’s talk about Garth Brooks,” he says straightforwardly. “That’s the artist that they built. That’s the artist that they, God and my folks have built.

“I just go along for the ride, which is pretty fun,” Brooks adds modestly, but with a smile. “I gotta tell ya, it’s fun. It’s fun to know that the next song that’s coming up on that setlist they’re going to take it from you by the second line, and you’re just going to get to watch.”

In that vein, Brooks revealed how it is for him to watch spouse and superstar in her own right Yearwood onstage in the live special.

“That’s one of the greatest voices ever,” he declares of the “Georgia Rain” singer and three-time Grammy winner. “Women love her, men love her, and I can see why,” he says, “because … she is one of the greatest vocalists of any music genre, of any time.

“I’m lucky to know her as an artist, I’m lucky to know her as a husband, really lucky to know her as my best friend.”

It’s that sense of friendship and camaraderie that sits at the base of what Brooks does.

“That’s my whole thing with music, that’s my whole thing with the bar,” Brooks lays it out. “Let’s find places where we leave all the sh*t outside, and we just come in and treat people like humans … like we’re friends.”
