Crawley v Crewe preview

Crawley and Crewe have defied the odds in the play-offs this season by both reaching the Wembley final despite being the lower-ranked sides ahead of their respective semi-finals, having finished the season seventh and sixth respectively.

Crawley surprisingly head into Sunday's final as favourites for victory despite finishing seventh in the League Two table, ending up only one point ahead of the chasing pack having climbed into the top seven on the final day of the season.

Scott Lindsey's side upset the odds by hammering MK Dons, the highest placed finishers in the play-offs, 8-1 on aggregate in the semi finals, following up a 3-0 home win in the first leg with a barnstorming 5-1 victory in Buckinghamshire last weekend.

The Sussex side had only won one of their final five games of the season prior to their play-off adventure, but the ease in which they swept aside the pre play-off favourites makes the Red Devils the team to beat in Sunday's final.

Promotion would see Crawley in the third tier for the first time in 10 years, having spent the last nine dwelling between midtable and the bottom half of League Two, finishing just one place above dropping out of the EFL altogether last season.

Crewe have been a near permanent-fixture in the top seven throughout the season, having broken into the play-off spots at the start of October and never fallen out of them since.

Lee Bell's side were the most out of form side heading into the play-offs and came up against Doncaster, the most in form team in the entire division, which showed as the Cheshire side fell to a 2-0 home defeat in the first leg of their semi final.

However, two early goals in the second leg for the Railwaymen, who had won just one of their previous 10 matches, saw them level the tie on aggregate, from which they ended up winning the penalty shoot-out, with on-loan goalkeeper Max Stryjek saving the crucial penalty.

Promotion for the Alex would see you them climb out of the fourth tier at the second time of asking, having been relegated from League One as the worst side in the division two years ago.

Crewe have picked up 22 points from their last eight matches against Crawley, winning seven and drawing one, which includes doing the double over them this season by an aggregate scoreline of 5-2.

📝 Crawley v Crewe betting tips

Crawley head to Wembley as favourites after thrashing MK Dons in the semi finals but Crewe will be confident of securing promotion having upset the odds to win away at a Doncaster side who had won their previous eight home matches.

BetMGM are offering odds of 21/4 on Crewe to win and both teams to score, with the Cheshire side having by far the better of the recent results between the two sides in recent meetings.
