As we head into summer, many of those who are lucky enough to have a garden will be gearing up to spend as much time in the sun as possible, when we still can. However, keeping on top of the green space can be a source of dread, especially if the grass and hedges in your garden have been neglected over winter.

The Royal Horticultural Society recommends cutting your grass on a weekly or fortnightly basis between March and October to help keep it stay healthy. However, as we all know, it can be difficult to find the time to cut the grass even once a month, let alone four times in four weeks.

Luckily, we've spotted a nifty little gadget on Amazon that makes keeping on top of your lawn a breeze. Shoppers have been snapping up the LawnMaster VBRM16 OcuMow Drop and Mow Robot Lawnmower, which will mow grass on its own for up to four hours on a single charge and can be used on lawns up to 200m2, as the Chronicle Live reports.

The cordless mower is equipped with detachable lithium-ion batteries, and uses a grass recognition camera and ultrasonic sensors to do its job without the need for a boundary wire, outdoor power socket or app. Priced at £379.99 on Amazon and also available at B&Q for the same price, the LawnMaster is suitable for lawns surrounded by hard borders such as gravel, paving, decking or raised edges such as sleepers and fences.

Its cutting height can be adjusted between 20mm and 60mm. Plus, it also comes with a separate grass trimmer, with a cutting head that twists and locks into three different positions for edging, trimming, and reaching under objects such as benches and trampolines.

The nifty machine drops small mulch clippings on the lawn to feed the grass after mowing, meaning you don't have to spend time raking or emptying it into the garden bin. With just short of 200 reviews from Amazon shoppers, the robot lawn mower has earned an overall rating of 4.5 out of five stars, with many impressed reviewers sharing photos of their freshly cut grass.

One person praised in a five-star review: "A very robust, waterproof, neat and effective little mower. Very easy to use and not too heavy for older people to manage. My rather dismal and neglected lawn is looking so much better, evenly green and well cut."

Another Amazon customer agreed: "Overall, I am extremely pleased with it. Fantastic, clever and effective design makes it the best piece of technology I ever had. I've never had a better lawn that I have now."

A third shopper said: "Simply brilliant. I've been searching for some time for a robot mower that does not require boundary wire - this one fits the bill and works perfectly. My lawn is raised and is already starting to look lush, and it's keeping well away from all the edges and steps which I just give a wee speedy trim. Massive time saver and amazing value for money."

And someone else described it as "worth every penny", raving: "What a great little machine. As a single mum, I struggle to juggle everything everyday, let alone throwing mowing the lawn into the mix - I was considering getting a gardener, but worked out this would actually save me money. Absolutely love it."

Others hailed the lawn mower as a "godsend" and said it "pays for itself", saying they were "blown away" by how well it did its job. However, while 79% of shoppers awarded it the full five stars and another nine per cent gave it four stars, a small number of customers said that theirs "didn't work" on their lawn, complaining that it "got stuck" - it's worth noting that LawnMaster states the robot mower is not suitable for gardens with overhanging plants, undefined borders, or edges with a drop off.

If you're not quite ready to make the commitment to a robot lawn mower, the number one bestselling traditional model on Amazon is the Bosch Rotak 36 R Electric Lawnmower, which is currently on offer for £125.60 reduced from £173. With more than 10,000 reviews from shoppers, this lawn mower has an average rating of 4.4 out of five stars.
