Christian Eriksen and Antony both tipped one Manchester United star to secure the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for the current season.

Manchester United have endured an up-and-down season at Old Trafford under manager Erik ten Hag, who has faced mounting pressure over the club’s campaign.

The under-fire Erik ten Hag has seen his first-team squad ravaged by injuries at times and United have been criticised for their form and lack of consistency.

Even the United boss’ long-term future at Old Trafford remains shrouded in mystery amid Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival as co-owner of the Red Devils.

Despite the Premier League club’s turbulent season, the Red Devils will still see one player scoop the club’s prestigious Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.

Manchester United’s official website opened the voting for the award on Wednesday, with Red Devils supporters able to cast their vote for the winner.

According to United, the poll for the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year prize features every player at the club who has made at least one appearance this season.

Antony names his pick for Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year

Marcus Rashford is the most recent recipient of the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award after his sensational run of form under Erik ten Hag last season.

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website, Antony was asked who he felt should follow in Marcus Rashford’s footsteps and lift the award for this season.

The 24-year-old Brazilian winger, who has faced criticism over his form this season, believes that Diogo Dalot should scoop the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year prize.

Antony argued that Diogo Dalot has been ‘consistent’ over the course of the season for United and the full-back has shown his versatility on both flanks.

“Not just because he’s my friend, my vote would go to [Dalot], I’ll explain why,” he said.

“Given his consistency during games, for the work he puts in and his high level of consistency every game, my vote goes to Diogo Dalot.

“He’s my best friend, but friendship aside, it’s observing everything: his consistency, how much he helps us playing at left-back and right-back.

“My vote goes to him because of his consistency. He’s very good in every game.”

Eriksen names Dalot and two other Man Utd stars

Dalot has been a reliable option for United boss Ten Hag amid the injury crisis this season and the 25-year-old defender established himself as a key first-team player.

Christian Eriksen, much like Antony, hailed the impressive season from Dalot and believes he should be in contention for the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.

However, the 32-year-old United midfielder admitted that Bruno Fernandes, who won the award for two consecutive seasons, has “done really well.”

Eriksen also spotlighted Andre Onana and how the United star has impressed after weathering a tough start to life in England following his transfer last summer.

“Yeah, obviously it’s been a season of ups and downs and I think more or less everyone has had a few injuries […] if not, then they’ve done well,” he said.

“No, I think there’ve been a few. I think Diogo has done well this season. I think Bruno has done really well.

“I think Andre has done well. But yeah, I think there’s been a few that have done pretty well.”
