Manchester United still have a chance at silverware before the season ends but one former talent is now chasing an unbelievable treble.

United will have a trip to Wembley next weekend, taking on rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

This is a repeat of the 2023 FA Cup final, which United lost 2-1 as Erik ten Hag missed out on a second piece of silverware in his first season in charge.

Ten Hag has endured a difficult second season at United but could still end the campaign with another trophy in the bag.

Beating City won’t be easy but you just never known in a one-off game at Wembley.

Matej Kovar celebrates Invincibles season

United players will hope to get their hands on silverware before the season ends but Matej Kovar is experiencing something quite remarkable.

Kovar left United at the end of last season, having impressed on loan at Sparta Prague in his native Czech Republic.

The 24-year-old joined Bayer Leverkusen, heading to Germany as second choice behind their first-choice stopper Lukas Hradecky.

Leverkusen have now completed a quite remarkable Bundesliga campaign as their win over Augsburg means that they have completed an unbeaten league season.

Leverkusen had never even won a Bundesliga title before this season, so to do it whilst becoming the first Bundesliga team to go a season unbeaten is just ridiculous.

Kovar has only managed one Bundesliga appearance but has been a regular in their Europa League campaign.

As if going the Bundesliga season unbeaten wasn’t enough, they are also in the Europa League and DFB-Pokal finals.

That means Leverkusen and Kovar could end the season with an unbeaten treble, a simply ridiculous feat.

Kovar may not have featured as much as hoped but he has still played his part in an unbelievable season.

Kovar has now taken to social media to post a photo of himself with the Bundesliga title, simply staying ‘Deutsche Meister’ – which translates to German champion.

Former United talents Ro’Shaun Williams, Ethan Galbraith and Di’Shon Bernard all sent messages of support to Kovar, as did Timothy Fosu-Mensah – an ex-United youngster who is now with Kovar at Leverkusen.

Kovar buy-back clause

United cashed in on Kovar, bringing in around £7.7million for his services.

United also negotiated a buy-back clause as well as a first-option agreement, meaning he could yet end up back at Old Trafford in the future.

Andre Onana seems settled as United’s first-choice stopper after a shaky start to life in Manchester but we have barely seen Altay Bayindir in action.

United could be in the market for another backup stopper down the line and Kovar has shown quality with Leverkusen in their superb Europa League campaign.

You can never say never; who would have expected Jonny Evans to return to United?

Kovar could come back to United down the line, but for now he is just celebrating being part of a truly historic campaign with Leverkusen.
