SOAP star Gemma Oaten is delighted to have been offered her own BBC Radio show.

The former Emmerdale cast member, 38, shared an emotional message with fans saying she's been left speechless by the good news.

She kicked off her stint on BBC Radio Humberside this weekend, and let fans know that she will be returning weekly on Saturdays.

The actress included a special section in her show called Gem's Gems where she read out random acts of kindness listeners had experienced that week.

Gemma gushed: "Buzzing! Thank you. Dream come true. No more words. Just thank you!

"Now to take it all in with my amazing Mum & Dad & a big old gin!!

Listeners flocked to the comments to compliment her debut on the airwaves.

One person was moved to tears by the show, saying: "You absolutely smashed it Gemma! Banging opening track and we definitely ‘felt it’ Gemma!

"Your warmth and energy lifted the airwaves!! I shed a tear of complete and utter joy. You were made to share your sunshine with the world."

Another chimed in: "You made a splendid radio debut today, Gemma. I look forward to listening to you next Saturday. BBC Radio Humberside should consider themselves very lucky to have you on board."

Gemma starred in Emmerdale as Rachel Breckle from 2011 until 2015.

She also appeared in the now-axed BBC One drama Holby City, playing Sydney Somers.
