Liverpool is one of the many cities in the world where people have placed 'love locks' to symbolise an unbreakable bond and now ECHO readers have shared the stories behind their trinkets.

Many can be seen attached to railings by the Albert Dock with new ones attached every day and some rusted over years of staying. In 2014, Chris Callister and Phillippa Goodwin left their love lock by the Liverpool waterfront. Chris told the ECHO his plans to leave another once their baby was born with their name and DOB written across the lock.

Jane Foreman, from Kent, also placed her love lock at the Albert Dock, when she visited Liverpool on her 40th birthday. Her son Joseph, aged five, died after battling a brain tumour, and the last thing he wore was his Liverpool football kit, that Jane bought here in the city.

She said: "Coming back to Liverpool was a big thing, I love the city, I love the locals and I get a lot of support from the child death helpline based at Alder Hey."

Jane's love lock has the names of her children on. She said: "We added our love lock as a permanent reminder of our love, our little family bond and in the city where we have our fondest memories of Joseph.

"Liverpool has always been very sentimental to me, and we threw our keys in the river. Both my girls said they want to come up every year on Joseph's anniversary and check on our love locks and do the usual lovely things we do in Liverpool. For us it's more than just a love lock, our memories are now there as a physical reminder of our permanent love as a little family unit."

But Merseysiders have also placed their love locks far and wide across the world. Sami Allott and her partner Scott attached a love lock in Melbourne whilst travelling around Australia. She said: "He then tragically died and friends we had met whilst travelling did one on Sydney Harbour bridge in his memory - very thoughtful!"
