Hulu will become the exclusive subscription VOD home to “30 Rock,” starring Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin, under a new agreement with NBCUniversal Television and New Media Distribution that also covers four other series.
Starting Oct. 1, all episodes of the seven seasons of “30 Rock” will be streaming on Hulu. The full run of “30 Rock” had previously been available on Netflix.
In addition, Hulu is getting all six seasons of NBC drama series “Parenthood“; Paul Reiser’s late-night period comedy “There’s… Johnny!” — which originally had been set for NBCU’s Seeso streaming service before it shut down last month — as well as two reality series, “Made in Chelsea” and “Face Off.”
The new Hulu agreement with NBCU, which is one of Hulu’s owners, comes after the SVOD player nabbed streaming rights to all eight season of the original “Will & Grace” sitcom, which is returning in a revival on NBC with the premiere on Sept. 28.
Meta-comedy “30 Rock,” a three-time Emmy Awards winner for best comedy series, was created by and stars Fey. She plays Liz Lemon, who’s asked by fictional NBC honcho Jack Donaghy (Baldwin) to make a hit out of sketch-comedy show “TGS with Tracy Jordan” (patterned after “Saturday Night Live,” where Fey had been head writer). “30 Rock” also stars Tracy Morgan, Jack McBrayer, Scott Adsit, Judah Friedlander and Jane Krakowski.
Also coming to Hulu under the new NBCU pact is “Parenthood,” with all six season available in early 2018 on the streaming service. The one-hour drama, from executive producers Jason Katims, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, follows the very large, colorful and imperfect Braverman clan. “Parenthood,” based on the 1989 movie of the same name, stars Peter Krause, Lauren Graham, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, Dax Shepard, Erika Christensen, Monica Potter, Sam Jaeger and Joy Bryant.
Hulu also will premiere “There’s… Johnny!”, from executive producer Paul Reiser. Tony Danza stars in the show about the behind-the-scenes life at “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” circa 1972.
Later in 2017, Hulu will add the first 13 seasons of the U.K. reality series “Made in Chelsea,” marking their U.S. SVOD debut. And in early 2018, the first 10 seasons of Syfy’s reality-competition series “Face Off” are coming to Hulu. “Face Off” follows special-effects makeup artists as they participate in elaborate challenges for a grand prize and the honor of being Hollywood’s next great effects artist.
The new deal expands Hulu’s library of NBCUniversal Television shows, which also includes “This Is Us,” “Blindspot” and multiple seasons of “SNL.”
