Melin Newydd
Stay in this truly unique converted windmill, with a third floor balcony overlooking the countryside, and you'll be admiring it just like George Clarke did on Channel 4's Restoration Man.
Full of original features and oozing character, the windmill has been the subject of a simply stunning restoration, which makes this a cosy and quirky place to stay.
The windmill has all the mod cons you would expect and need for a short break, although children under six and dogs can't stay.
It's also just 10 minutes drive to the sandy beach of Rhosneigr and is close to the RSPB reserve at South Stack.

Union Mill
This windmill is bright with stylish slate floors, colourful sofas and bean bags.
A wide screen HD television/DVD player caters for days when you want to hunker down and hide from the outside world and huge doors open directly onto the sunny patio if it's a warm and sunny day.
There is a bespoke kitchen with slate floors, wooden cupboards and work-island all custom-made to accommodate the curved walls and it's a fab place to dine. This tall, quirky building narrows upwards over four levels from the kitchen linked by a slender hand-built staircase. Curl up the stairs and this is where it gets interesting.
This mill is 234 years old so you have to access the top three floors via the steep and winding stairs through each open plan room so it's not really suitable for little babies, very young children and those who would find three flights of steps difficult. Despite the fact that the rooms in the tower get smaller as you rise, the view improves with every step.
The top floor has 360 degree views to the stunning Snowdonia mountain range and you can watch the sun go down on the bar stools.
Where: Gaerwen, Anglesey

Price: From £450 for three nights in low season, from £650 for three nights in mid season and £1,150 in high season for three nights.
