Thursday's college volleyball report: Northern Iowa falls in NCAA Tournament

Pepperdine 3, Northern Iowa 2

Madison, Wis. — The Northern Iowa volleyball team lost to Pepperdine in five sets on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Pepperdine won the first two sets 25-22 and 25-21. Northern Iowa then tied the match with 25-19 and 25-20 victories.

The Waves clinched the match with a 15-13 victory in the fifth and final set.

Karlie Taylor led Northern Iowa with 14 kills, followed by Kate Busswitz's 10. Rachel Koop had 41 assists. Kendyl Sorge finished with 19 digs. 

Iowa State 3, Drake 0

Ames, Ia. — Jess Schaben finished with 18 kills to lead Iowa State past Drake 3-0 on Thursday in the first round of the NIVC Tournament.

Scores were 25-16, 27-25 and 25-22.

Grace Lazard added 10 kills for the Cyclones. Piper Mauck had 45 assists. Schaben led the Cylcones with 14 digs.

Iowa State will host Bradley in the second round at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Hilton Coliseum.
