The House of Facebook! Six-bedroom Los Altos property where Mark Zuckerberg built one of the world's most famous sites (and his fortune) is listed at $10,000 a month - double what he rented it for back in 2004

The Silicon Valley home that Mark Zuckerberg rented when he was launching Facebook is now up for rent for $10,000 a month. 

Zuckerberg, then 19, first rented the six-bedroom home at 1743 Westbrook Ave in Los Altos back in September 2004 with Facebook co-founder, Dustin Moskovitz, and the social network's first president, Sean Parker. 

The trio were paying $5,500 per month to rent the home as they were scrambling to launch the social media company. 

Now, the home where Zuckerberg launched the startup is being rented out for $9,988 per month by a real estate firm called Gosalvez Team Rentals.

The owner of the home, Judy Fusco, has spoken at length about her decision to allow Zuckerberg to rent the home 17 years ago. 

She even wrote a book called Casa Facebook in 2011 about her now-former tenant.

Fusco, now 76, recalled in an interview with the New York Post this week that Zuckerberg had written her a check for $10,000 - including rent and security deposit - before he had even looked inside the home. 

'Mark stood outside and never went into the house while Sean and Dustin ran up the front stairs to see the house,' Fusco said. 

'Mark stood there and asked on the spot if they could rent the place without even looking inside.

'I read the check and asked him what he did, and he told me about a company called Facebook, and how he planned to connect the world.

'I said, 'I don't care if you are going to connect the world, if this check does not pass, you're not moving in'.' 

Fusco said the house was quickly filled with interns, including about 10 who were huddled on bunk beds in a sun room.

The group rented the home from Fusco for about six months.

They moved out when the space became too small as the social network exploded.

Fusco said they repeatedly tried to get her to invest in Facebook after they launched and once even promised to give her stock in the company instead of rent.

Zuckerberg wrote his landlord a check for $10,000 - including rent and security deposit - before he had even looked inside the home.

It isn't clear exactly how many people were living in the home when Zuckerberg rented it. The group rented the home from Fusco for about six months

'Sean would come to me repeatedly asking me to invest, telling me I would be a billionaire one day if I did,' Fusco said. 'They proposed giving me the stock instead of the rent — a dollar a stock. I said no.' 

Facebook didn't go public until 2012 and Fusco eventually did buy 500 shares. 

She recalled getting a monk to come to the home to bless the house before Zuckerberg had even moved in. 

The monk told her that someone was going to be 'rich and famous' would live in her home.   

'And looking back I always think about the monk that had come to my house. I had no idea that would be the Facebook brand. I had a daughter to put through school, I was afraid to take the risk at the time. But Sean was right,' Fusco said.

Zuckerberg and his friends moved into Fusco's home after being kicked out of their previous rental in Palo Alto over an incident involving a zipline that ran from the chimney down into the pool. 

Fusco has admitted that if she had known why they were kicked out of the previous rental she may not have allowed them to move in.  

The Los Altos property, as well as the previous Palo Alto rental, was alluded to in The Social Network film about the rise of Facebook. 

A few months back, the single room where Zuckerberg lived in Fusco's home was being marketed on Craigslist $1,350 a month.
