The team behind Stockport’s Business Improvement District, Totally Stockport, lived up to its name collecting The Stockport Award at this year’s Stockport Business Awards.
New to the line-up this year, judges were looking to present ‘The Stockport Award’ to a person or organisation that has “really been flying the flag and are keen advocates for the borough.”
Since April 2017, Totally Stockport has been working relentlessly to support its town centre bid-levy paying businesses. By hosting an ambitious variety of events that attract greater footfall and improve the visitor experience, out-dated perceptions of Stockport have been changed as the town centre undergoes a £1bn plan of investment and development.
In 2019, Totally Stockport’s Giant Leap Frog Art Trail, a trail of 19 giant frogs across the town centre, celebrated Stockport’s own giant leap in the regeneration and redevelopment of the town centre. Throughout the life of the town centre trail, footfall increased by over 35%, maintaining an average increase of 18.5%, an additional 43,000 visitors per week, post event.
Totally Stockport beat two other highly regarded organisations – Sector 3 and Stockport Gin – to bag the award on the night, which was sponsored by the awards venue, Edgeley Park, Stockport County’s home ground.
The Totally Stockport team collected their prized award from Olivia Hanvey, Head of Commercial and Ticketing at Stockport County Football Club
Businesses in the town centre voted for the area to be designated a Business Improvement District (BID) following a successful ballot in October 2016. The current five-year BID term ends on 31st March 2022. A second BID is proposed from 1st April 2022 and is currently out to ballot. A decision will be announced on 22nd October 2022.
