A YOUNG mum is hosting a fundraising event for Derian House next week, for the support given to her family through the loss of their 4-week-old baby girl.

Ada-Rose Bennett was born to mum Amy after just 23 weeks in February 2020, and spent the majority of her short life in Bolton hospital as staff tried to keep her alive.

As she was born so prematurely, however, there were complications with Ada-Rose's health and she collapsed after suffering brain bleeds and fell seriously ill.

Taken to the comfort of Derian House in Chorley for the final hours of her life, Ada-Rose sadly passed away at just four weeks old.

Although a "traumatic time" for the family, Amy explained the support of staff at Derian House, which provides end-of-life care to children and young people in the North West, was "amazing".

Amy, who is from Platt Bridge in Wigan and has lots of family in Leigh, said: "Staff at Derian House got involved as soon as Ada-Rose was born. They really supported me through everything and talked me through the process.

"It was a traumatic time but if it wasn't for the emotional support from everyone there, I don't know what I would have done.

"They let me and my partner stay in an apartment above where Ada-Rose slept and just really gave me the time to be a Mum."

Grateful that she had this wrap-around support and time to process what was happening, Amy, 26, has become invested in fundraising for the hospice since her daughters passing.

Created to raise vital funds and show her gratitude to the hospice, a fundraising event for Derian House and in memory of Ada-Rose will take place at Spring View Cricket Club in Platt Bridge on Friday, October 22 at 6pm.

With 120 tickets already sold for the event which will include auctions, raffles, a DJ, buffet and children's entertainment, Amy has been blown away from the support of the community.

The mum-of-five added: "I was so nervous setting the fundraising night up but I'm actually overwhelmed by the generosity and donations from local people."
