Mel C has become the fifth celebrity to be eliminated from Dancing With The Stars in the US, leaving viewers ‘livid’ and ‘gutted’ as she bows out of the competition alongside her professional partner, Gleb Savchenko.

As a member of the Spice Girls, Melanie Chisholm, 47, was always going to be a strong contender on DWTS, what with her years of performing experience.

However, despite achieving a strong score in the latest week of the American dance show, she failed to make it through to the next round after landing in the bottom two.

For week five, the celebrities and their partners paid homage to the 1978 film Grease, each performing dances set to tunes from the cinematic classic.

Mel C and former Strictly Come Dancing pro Gleb delivered a strong Quickstep to You’re The One That I Want, achieving straight nines from the four judges.

Nonetheless, that wasn’t enough to save her from the bottom two, going up against social media personality Olivia Jade and Valentin Chmerkovskiy, who received the same score.

In the end, it was up to the judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli to decide who would proceed to the next stage of the competition.

As Olivia and Val received votes from Derek and Len, they were saved from elimination, as Len’s vote – as head judge – takes precedence over a tie.

Following her exit, Mel C opened up about how ‘fearful’ she had felt about participating in a programme like DWTS, due to how ‘vulnerable’ she would have to be.

‘We were filmed all day, every day, in rehearsals, and I’m not used to that environment. Well, probably not since the ’90s, you know, being a Spice Girl and having cameras following us around everywhere. So that was a bit of a scary thing for me,’ she told reporters, according to People.

The singer stressed how ‘proud’ she feels of herself, outlining how the ‘high expectations’ she and others put on her made her feel ‘a lot of pressure at times’ over the weeks.

Mel C added that despite having a lot of performance experience under her belt, her time in the competition proves that ‘you never stop learning’.

Fans expressed their disappointment over Mel C’s departure, with several saying that they believe the vote from the public is a ‘popularity contest’.

‘Aw, I’m so gutted @MelanieCmusic is out of @DancingABC. Loudly crying face You did amazing, Melanie! Definitely didn’t deserve to go,’ one person tweeted, while another said they felt ‘livid’.

‘Really shocked at Mel C being eliminated from #DWTS. I thought she would at least make the semi finals,’ someone else commented.

DWTS’ Grease Night saw several special stars make appearances, including Grease icon Olivia Newton-John, who played Sandy, and Didi Conn, who played Frenchy.

Frankie Avalon also appeared on the show, delivering a rendition of his song Beauty School Dropout for Amanda Kloots’ Viennese Waltz with her professional partner Alan Bersten.

Next week will see the stars unleash their spooky side, as they celebrate Halloween with Horror Night-inspired performances.

Dancing with the Stars airs in the US Mondays at 8 pm on ABC.
