Newcastle suggested as potential suitor for Ronald Koeman after Barcelona exit, by ex-England international

Michael Ball has suggested on Twitter that Ronald Koeman could end up at Newcastle United – after the Dutchman was sacked by Barcelona.

Koeman’s tenure at Barcelona – which lasted just 14 months – came to an end on Wednesday evening having watched his side lose 1-0 to Rayo.

Radamel Falcao got the only goal of the game – succumbing Koeman to a 16th defeat in 67 Barcelona games as manager. Barca have moved on.

While plenty are being linked with the Barcelona job – it is an interesting time in Koeman’s career. A man, with huge Premier League experience.

Newcastle, meanwhile, continue to be linked with the likes of Paulo Fonseca and Lucien Favre. Erik Ten Hag is also a target, but could join Barcelona.

Many are putting two and two together and predicting Newcastle to go after Koeman. Ex-Everton man Ball reckons Koeman could move to Tyneside.

Ball on Koeman: Should Newcastle make their move for Dutchman?

Koeman’s CV as a manager is spectacular. Barcelona was his 11th job, after spells at some of Europe’s biggest clubs – including Everton.

Valencia, Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Benfica, Feyenoord and the Dutch national team before Barcelona. He has 56 wins from 123 Premier League games.

An excellent tally, given he was managing during a transition period at Everton – and a Southampton side that were always in the bottom half.

Though his stock will be low after a disappointing Barcelona spell, Newcastle could do a lot worse than appointing 58-year-old Koeman.
