‘Already a cult hero’: Some Leeds fans react to what £22k-a-week ace has put on Twitter

Diego Llorente has taken to Twitter to offer his thoughts on Leeds United’s exit from the Carabao Cup following Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat away to Arsenal, sparking some fans to react.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites bowed out of the competition after second-half goals from Calum Chambers and Eddie Nketiah. Llorente opened the action at the Emirates Stadium with Pascal Struijk in central defence. But departed the field moments after Chambers scored.

The north London tie marked last year’s £18m arrival from Real Sociedad’s seventh game of the season so far. Bielsa was keen to manage Llorente’s minutes against Arsenal after playing every prior second since returning from a muscular injury earlier this month.

Bielsa explained, via Leeds Live, after the Arsenal defeat that “a succession of games [is] sometimes not good for Llorente”. The £22k-a-week defender feared a lengthy absence after sustaining his injury against Liverpool. But would only miss two league fixtures.

Llorente marked his return by scoring the winner against Watford for Leeds’ first three-points of the Premier League season. But travelled to Arsenal in midweek hoping to help the Whites enjoy a run in the Carabao Cup.

“We say goodbye to a competition that we’re excited about, but we cannot give up,” he wrote. “We’ve [now got] to think about the next game. Together we’ll be better!”

Leeds fans react to Llorente post on Carabao Cup exit

Some Leeds fans have responded to Llorente’s post reflecting on the Elland Road outfit’s Carabao Cup exit to Arsenal. A few focused on Bielsa withdrawing the defender moments after falling behind to the Gunners. While other also noted their support for his efforts.

Additionally, some added that Bielsa’s focus should be on the Premier League given how the Whites have started the season. Leeds sit 17th in the table after nine games, having won just once and also taken four draws. United also boast the fourth-worst defensive record with 16 goals conceded and third-worst offensive record with eight scored so far.
