Chennai Customs seizes 1.06 kg gold worth Rs 46.92 lakh, 2 arrested

The Chennai Air Customs, on January 17, seized 8 gold bars and two gold chains worth Rs 46.92 lakh from two passengers who arrived from Dubai.

Customs officials at Chennai International Airport on January 17 seized 1.06 kg of gold worth 46.92 lakh.

As many as 8 gold bars and two gold chains worth Rs 46.92 lakh were seized from two passengers who arrived from Dubai. The officials, based on information, had intercepted the two male passengers.

The officials on examining the bags of travelers found eight gold bars ingeniously concealed in the DC power supply transformer and two gold chains from them.

The seized gold was 1.06 kg worth Rs 46.92 lakh.

The seizure was done under the Customs Act, 1962. Both passengers were arrested and an investigation is underway.
