The TN opposition leader, Edappadi K Palaniswami urged that all the TASMAC shops (state-owned liquor shops) be closed down till the number of Covid-19 cases is reduced in the state.

On Wednesday, January 19, Tamil Nadu opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami, in a statement, demanded that all the TASMAC shops (state-owned liquor shops) be closed till the Covid cases are reduced in TN.

The former CM and AIADMK leader alleged that the DMK was having a different approach to issues before elections and a different approach post elections.

EPS reminded that during the AIADMK government, the DMK, led by MK Stalin, had black flag protests at the opening of TASMAC shops.

EPS further added that the number of cases was much less than the current numbers.

"Over 24,000 cases were reported on January 18, and on social media, doctors are saying that the numbers will be over 50,000 of the infected and all measures to stop the spread of the virus must be taken," added EPS.

Tamil Nadu registered 23,888 new Covid-19 cases and 29 deaths in 24 hours on Tuesday, January 18. There are currently 1,61,171 active cases in the state.

Tamil Nadu has detected a total of 241 Covid-19 cases of the Omicron variant so far. Of these, 231 patients have been discharged.
