Ten people who were injured in the blast in an internal compartment onboard INS Ranvir have been admitted to INHS Asvini Navy Hospital. It has been learnt their condition is stable even though some are critical.

The explosion claimed the lives of three naval personnel and injured 11, including two senior officers.

A board of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident. A Mumbai naval officer is probing the matter while three officers are likely to reach the Mumbai naval base camp today.

A team of high-level officers of the Mumbai Navy has been engaged in the investigation since last night to investigate the reason behind the blast and whether it was a technical error or a human error.

The incident took place when the Rajput-class destroyer was docked at Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.

Responding immediately, the ship's crew brought the situation under control. There was no major material damage, the release said.

INS Ranvir was on cross-coast operational deployment from the Eastern Naval Command and was due to return to base port shortly.
