Former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday afternoon.

According to reports, the 94-year-old Shiromoni Akali Dal patron has been admitted to the Hero Heart Institute of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in Ludhiana.

While the Omicron bomb is ticking in several states of India, both politicians and the general public in poll-bound Punjab are being seen flouting Covid-safety guidelines at crowded election rallies.

Though no Omicron case has been detected in Punjab, the capital Chandigarh and neighbouring state Haryana are beginning to report cases of this more transmissible variant of coronavirus.

Even Parkash Singh Badal was reportedly touring his Lambi constituency and met a number of people, including party leaders, in the recent past.
