A Delhi Police officer was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday for demanding and accepting bribe for not arresting two persons in a criminal case, officials said.

“It was alleged that the accused demanded bribe from complainant for not arresting his brother and nephew in a case registered at the Sultanpuri police station. It was also alleged that the accused directed the complainant to hand over the bribe to a tea vendor operating in front of the police station,” the CBI said in a statement.

After verifying the information given by the complainant, the CBI laid a trap and caught the private person Bhagat Lal while accepting bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant on the directions of ASI Kuldeep Singh.

The officials also conducted searches at the premises linked to both the accused.
