Man accused of raping minor shot at during encounter in UP's Kalyanpur

A man, who kidnapped and raped a minor girl in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur, was allegedly shot at during an encounter by the police in Kalyanpur today morning.

A man, who kidnapped and raped an eight-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur, was allegedly shot at during an encounter on Wednesday morning. The accused fired at the police when he was asked to stop near the Bara Siroha Canal in Kalyanpur area.

On Tuesday, the family members of the girl lodged a complaint against their neighbour for kidnapping and raping their minor daughter. The family of the victim alleged that they had sent their daughter to buy milk near the house on Monday night at around 9 pm when the incident happened.

ACP Kalyanpur Dinesh Shukla told India Today, "An unknown man was asked to stop by police near Bara Siroha Canal but he fired at us and ran towards the forest area. In their self-defence, police then fired at the man who was shot in his leg. A sub inspector also got injured in the cross fire and both were taken to the hospital for medical treatment."

"The sub inspector and the accused have been admitted to the Community Health Center, Kalyanpur, where the treatment is underway," the ACP said. The man has been accused of abducting and raping a minor girl in a locality under the Kalyanpur police station limits.

Man accused in rape case

According to the family members of the victim, the girl narrated her ordeal that her neighbour Akash Gaur abducted her and raped her. Police sent the minor for the post-mortem examination and said that the victim is in a critical condition.

Kanpur police have filed a case against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual (POSCO) Act. Three teams were also formed to nab the accused on the orders of Kanpur Police Commissioner Vijay Singh Meena.

"Police also recovered a country made pistol and a few cartridges from his possession and further investigation is underway," the ACP added.
