Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav may contest UP polls from Gunnaur: Sources

Former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had given hints that he will contest the UP Assembly election, 2022. As per the sources, the Samajwadi Party chief may contest the Uttar Pradesh polls from Gunnaur constituency of Sambhal district.

Sambhal district falls in western UP and the Samajwadi Party has always dominated the politics here. Mulayam Singh Yadav has been MLA from here twice. SP's Ram Gopal Yadav and Javed Ali Khan have also represented the party from here. In such a situation, Akhilesh's landing from the Gunnaur seat is being considered as a big political bet.

Akhilesh Yadav is the Lok Sabha MP from Azamgarh and has never contested a state election. When he became the state chief minister in 2012, Yadav took the route of the Legislative Council.

Meanwhile, Shivpal Yadav is likely to contest the election from Jaswantnagar. However, his son Aditya Yadav will not contest the election.

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2022 will be held from February 10 in seven phases. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
