A CHILDREN’S play area in Hood Manor which has been described as a ‘disgrace to the community’ is set for refurbishment.

Brentnall Park has been forced to close three times over the past three years due to vandals damaging the equipment and flooring.

Parents living in the area raised concerns with Warrington South MP Andy Carter, asking him to look into the play area being reopened.

The MP says he was dismayed by the length of time being taken by the play area’s owner to bring it up to safe standards and allow children to use the facilities again.

“About six months ago, I was contacted by residents on Hood Lane asking for help to reopen Brentnall Park,” Mr Carter said.

“So, I made contact with Your Housing Group, which made positive noises and said it would look at making repairs.

“I called round earlier this month and it is still padlocked. Some of the temporary fences have been removed but the swings have not been replaced and repairs are still required.

“Almost all the parents I know want safe outdoor play areas for their children – anything to get them away from the tv and active – so it is really disappointing to see no progress here.”

The Warrington Guardian contacted Your Housing Group for an update on the play area and whether it would be repaired and reopened soon.

In response, a spokesman for Your Housing Group said: “We are committed to returning Brentnall Park back into a safe, positive space for the local community.

“We are pleased to be able to share that, along with the parish council, we have now agreed a way forward, and repair and refurbishment works will start this spring.

“This work will include the removal and replacement of the damaged floor, as well as cleaning and maintenance of the existing equipment.
