Hibs have completed the signing of Scotland hero David Marshall on a pre-contract.

The 37-year-old former Celtic keeper - who has been named in the international squad for the Ukraine World Cup play off - has agreed a switch back north of the border on a two-year deal which will kick in when his contract at QPR expires at the end of next month.

Marshall, who has 47 caps for Scotland, was the hero as Steve Clarke guided the nation to Euro 2020, making crucial saves in penalty shootouts against Israel and Serbia.

But he hadn't featured for his country since last summer after falling out of the reckoning at crisis club Derby.

Marshall moved to QPR in January and impressed in 12 outings before a hamstring injury ruled him out for the remainder of the club’s play-off push.

Now he is back fit and was this afternoon named in Clarke's squad ahead of Ukraine while becoming Lee Johnson's first signing since taking over at Hibs last week.

Johnson said: “I’d like to offer David a very warm welcome. He’s an excellent goalkeeper and actually a player that I’ve tried to sign before.

“His experience will be invaluable for us both on and off the pitch. It’s vital that our senior players aren’t just great characters, but also help us set the standard around the training ground and on matchdays.

“He is a fantastic addition to this squad, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Hibs head of recruitment, Ian Gordon, added: “We have a young, talented, ambitious team, but we know that if we want to be successful, we need to have a good balance in terms of experience and leadership, and David Marshall fits that mould perfectly.

“He is a real professional, who will push on the other ‘keepers and really help accelerate the development of our younger goalkeepers like Murray Johnson.”
