Demanding Barry Ferguson insists Ryan Kent must earn a new contract before Rangers put the money on the table.

English winger Kent is out of contract at the end of 2023 but would likely command serious interest if he were to become a free agent.

He notched 20 assists in all competitions and was a regular in their run to the Europa League Final.

But Ferguson insists his tally of three goals "isn't good enough."

The Rangers hero, speaking on Go Radio , was responding to Record Sport's Keith Jackson who wrote in his column that it is a "matter of urgency" for Gio van Bronckhorst to open talks over a new deal.

But Ferguson says he's yet to be convinced Kent deserves it as he isn't consistent enough.

Acknowledging he's being "greedy," Ferguson said: "The one thing I've always levelled against Ryan Kent is his consistency.

"I need to see more from him, three goals this season isn't good enough.

"Certainly with the ability he's got. He's a match winner, there's no doubt about that, but I just want more.

"I'm greedy, I want more from him and I'm sure Gio will want more.

"If you ask Ryan himself he would want more from himself.

"That's the only thing, it's up and down a bit with him, it's in the locker that he can be a match-winner most weeks but I'm just not seeing enough of that."
