Two schoolboys have been arrested after allegedly spitting at passengers, a bus driver and police in East Kilbride at the weekend.

First Bus have launched and investigation into the incident and is assisting police with enquires.

Officers were called after the disturbance on a No. 18 First Bus travelling from the Greenhills area on the town between 5 and 6pm on Saturday evening.

One witness said: "I really don't know what East Kilbride is coming to. Police had to be called and a journey that should have taken 10 minutes took an hour. We were terrified.

"The youngsters involved were only about 12 or 13 I would say and they even faced-up to police when they arrived."

A spokesperson for First Bus told Lanarkshire Live : "We can confirm an incident took place on the No.18 bus on Saturday, May 21 and the police were called.

"We are currently conducting an investigation into the events that took place utilising our on board CCTV recording.

"We are also assisting police with their enquiries.”

Police in East Kilbride confirmed there was an incident on Saturday at approximately 5.20pm on the bus coming from Greenhills where two boys allegedly spat at the driver, occupants of the bus and police.

They added that the pair, both aged 13, were traced and arrested in connection with the incident and a report will be sent to the Children's Reporter.
