WAYNE Brown says Colchester United are still striving to bring in more 'quality' signings ahead of the new League Two season.

The U's made a triple signing earlier this week, snapping up Rochdale midfielder Alex Newby, midfielder Emyr Huws and goalkeeper Sam Hornby.

Colchester are building towards the new campaign, which gets underway on July 30.

And U's head coach Brown has confirmed he wants to add more players with the 'right characteristics and quality' to his squad.

He said: “We’ve got an opportunity to work with players that we had here last year and add three, four, five to that, to make the squad stronger.

“All we’re looking to do is get more quality through the door that’s going to enhance our chances of being successful.

“I think any manager up and down the country would just want to add quality that can enhance the chances of the team getting success and that’s no different for us.

“Yes we did have a good finish to the season and that was always the aim, to not just let the season filter out because of this scenario that we found ourselves in now.

“There’s pretty much the same amount of players here that we had last year with regard to players under contract and that gives them confidence.

“It gives them a little bit of belief and a lot of buy in to what we’re trying to do and success always puts a smile on your face, whether you’re a manager, coach, player or supporter.

“You then tend to enjoy your workplace and training and work hard, because you know that you have had success at what you’ve been doing.

“Now it’s all about building on that with pretty much the same group of players whilst adding the few that we do need to add with the right characteristics and the right quality."

Brown has been working closely alongside newly-appointed head of recruitment Ross Embleton (pictured below) and his fellow coaches in attempting to bring in new faces.

The U's boss says they are speaking on a daily basis about their potential targets and whether they will be suitable signings for the club.

“It’s about being a team," added Brown.

"It’s about singing off the same hymn sheet and communication, the quality of communication and the quality of life which ultimately gives you the best success as a football club.

“When I say football club, that means the recruitment, the first-team staff, the 23s coaches, first-team manager coaches – we all have to communicate.

“Is he ready or not? What do we need, what don’t we need? What can he do, what can’t he do?

“These are all conversations that go on, on a daily basis.

“We have to keep the comms open, like we have done all summer and identify the right quality that we feel we want to add to the group.

“Then it’s about seeing whether or not that quality that we’re after is doable with the funding that we’ve got."
