Typewriter Rodeo: Leaving (maybe) on a jet plane

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

It’s summertime, and the travel season has returned with intensity. Flights are packed and lines are long – and delays and cancelations are likely for a multitude of reasons. That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

Leaving (maybe) on a jet plane

Your flight will depart at 7:35 a.m.
so you better be up by four
in line by five
and at your gate no later than six
so the attendant can see
the look on your face when …
ALERT: One hour and three minute delay

Perhaps there’s time to grab a coffee
to get re-settled back at your gate
just in time for
you guessed it:
Another oddly-specifically-timed delay

Going to miss your connection?
No sweat.
It’s canceled anyway.
Here’s a complimentary snack.

Want to get somewhere on time?
Best they can do is offer you
a La Croix.
No, there’s not grapefruit.
Just lime.
