Barcelona are looking for a new right-back, and although he is not their first choice, they are interested in bringing in Hector Bellerin from Arsenal.

The 27-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta and spent last season in Spain on loan at Real Betis.

The full-back still has one year to run on his contract in north London, but he is hoping that the club agree to terminate his deal so he is free to leave this summer.

The Spain international is keen to return to Real Betis, having thoroughly enjoyed his loan sell with the club, but he could also be tempted to move to the Camp Nou.

Spanish publication Sport report that Barcelona are interested in Villarreal’s Juan Foyth and Borussia Dortmund’s Thomas Meunier, but both would be expensive options amid Barca’s fairly perilous financial situation.

If Arsenal were allow Bellerin to leave on a free, then he would clearly be a much more affordable target, and one that would fit in at Barcelona, having come through their youth ranks before moving to London in 2011.

Bellerin has made 239 appearances for Arsenal and was a regular in the first team from 2014 till the first half of 2021, before he fell out of contention.

He has not featured in either of Arsenal’s Premier League games so far this season and it seems that a summer exit is certain. The Gunners must decide whether to let him leave on a free or insist on receiving a transfer fee for him.
