A main road in Huddersfield has closed in both directions. The B6432 St Andrew's Road has closed due to accident investigation work that is taking place.

The work is taking place from Turnbridge Road to the A62 Leeds Road. The reports have come from the INRIX traffic reporting service.

INRIX says: "St Andrew's Road in both directions closed, slow traffic due to accident investigation work from Turnbridge Road to A62 Leeds Road."

It is not clear what has caused the incident, the emergency services have been contacted for comment. We have sent a reporter to the scene to try and find out what has happened.

Investigation launched into circumstances surrounding the collision

A spokesperson for the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has provided the below statement about this incident:

“Following a referral from West Yorkshire Police we have started an independent investigation into the circumstances of a fatal collision on St Andrew’s Road towards the crossroads with Gas Works Lane, Kirklees.

“We were notified by the force that two cars had been involved in a collision just before midnight on Thursday (August 18) after a police vehicle had requested the driver of a Jaguar to stop before it drove away.

“IOPC investigators were sent to attend the police post incident procedures and the scene of the collision.

“A 25-year-old occupant of the Jaguar died following the collision. Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this tragic incident.”

25-year-old dies following collision

A young man has died following a horror crash in Huddersfield last night, police have confirmed. It happened just before midnight and involved a Jaguar XF and a Mercedes GLC.

The Jaguar XF was travelling along St Andrew's Road towards the crossroads with Gas Works Lane, Huddersfield, while the Mercedes was also travelling along Gas Works Lane towards the crossroads.

Collision was fatal, police confirm

West Yorkshire Police have since confirmed that the collision in Kirklees last night was fatal.

The incident happened shortly before midnight and involved a Jaguar FX travelling on St Andrew’s Road towards the crossroads with Gas Works Lane, Huddersfield, and a Mercedes GLC travelling on Gas Works Lane towards the crossroads.

The vehicles collided on the crossroads and resulted in an occupant of the Jaguar, a 25-year-old male, suffering fatal injuries.
