Borussia Dortmund became the latest club to be linked with a move for Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, but they have now become the latest to confirm that they are not interested in the Manchester United forward.

Ronaldo’s future has been one of the ongoing transfer sagas of the summer, with the 37-year-old reportedly keen to leave Old Trafford and move to a Champions League club.

The Red Devils do not want to let him go, with one year left on his contract at the club, and there has been no concrete interest in signing him even if United were willing to do a deal.

A string of European giants have been touted as possible destinations for the Portuguese legend, but all have passed on the opportunity to bid for his services.

Dortmund have joined the party in being linked with the forward, but now ruling out a move for him.

The club’s CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, told a press conference on Friday: ‘I love him as a player, it’s certainly a charming idea to see Cristiano Ronaldo play at Signal Iduna Park.

‘But there is no contact at all between the parties involved. So from now on, you should stop talking about it.’

It seems increasingly likely that Ronaldo will stay at Old Trafford for the rest of the season and see out his contract with the club.

Links with the likes of Sporting and Chelsea persist, but with United still yet to bring in another forward, they will not let Ronaldo depart and leave them short in attack.

Ronaldo has appeared in both games so far this season, although could not prevent United losing to both Brighton and Brentford in the Premier League. He is expected to be involved on Monday night when the Red Devils host Liverpool at Old Trafford.
