Aaron Paul has confirmed that fans will never see the return of Jesse Pinkman.
We were first introduced to the iconic character in the very first episode of Breaking Bad, in 2008, and the lovable drug dealer instantly wormed his way into our hearts.
Following the end of the drama, in 2013, the 42-year-old reprised his role in spin-off film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, before getting back into the swing of things once more for the final season of Better Call Saul, which recently aired.
In a new interview after the finale, he revealed that he has no more plans to star as the crystal meth kingpin again, meaning we’ll just have to stick to repeats in future…
‘It’s kinda like reconnecting with a very familiar friend,’ he said of playing Jesse opposite Walter White (Bryan Cranston) in the prequel series. ‘You can be away from that friend for some time, but when you are back in each other’s company, it’s like no time has passed.
‘We all know our characters so well having played them for years, so it felt good. I love Pinkman. He will always have a special place inside of me, but I can confidently say that was the last time we’re going to see Pinkman. So it was a nice farewell.
‘It was such a fun ride. When we were finishing up Breaking Bad, Michael Slovis, our incredible DP, gave us all this really beautiful wrap gift and a note with a Dr. Suess quote that said, “Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.” So I’m holding on to that.’
Aaron also revealed that he wasn’t expecting to join in the action on Better Call Saul, and wasn’t caught up on the drama when the approach finally came through.
‘I’m such a huge fan of the show, but I didn’t see how they were going to do it,’ he added to Hollywood Reporter. ‘And when the call came, I was half a season behind, and so I didn’t really know where the timeline was going.
‘But from the moment they called me, I said, “Yeah, they figured it out. They knew how to do it.” So it was truly a dream to be back in this universe that Vince, Peter [Gould], Tom [Schnauz] and all the writers created.’
Better Call Saul came to an emotional end this week, with fans saying a final goodbye to everyone’s sleazy lawyer, Saul Goodman – played expertly by Bob Odenkirk.
The popular prequel series brought Jimmy McGill to the end of his journey before his ‘criminal lawyer’ alter ego stepped in for Breaking Bad – where we got our first glimpse of him more than a decade ago.
The last episode went down a treat with viewers, and was voted one of the best TV episodes in history.
