A White House guest has claimed Donald Trump said he removed the Oval Office "secret toilet" because Barack Obama used it.

The remarkable claim, which features in New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman's new book on Trump, Confidence Man, saw the guest hear the comment.

In the book, there are claims Trump made an odd comment on the "secret toilet" which is nearby the Oval Office - with the former president dubbing it the "Monica room".

The nickname was referring to former President Clinton's affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky in 1995.

Monica has claimed in the past there is an intimate office off to the side of the study and contains a dining room, a small pantry and a bathroom.

The New York Times reporter wrote: "'When Trump showed visitors his workplace, he invited some to peer into what he periodically described as his 'secret bathroom'.

"Which he occasionally presented with the claim he had renovated the entire space down to the toilet."

Trump said to the guest: "You understand what I'm talking about?"

The guest added: "The statement was strange and vague and open to interpretation as to why he emphasised the changes, but the guest interpreted it to mean Trump did not want to use the same bathroom as his Black predecessor."

However, reports have suggested the renovation did not take place in the White House.

Officials claim only the toilet was replaced at the time, which is customary during a change in office holder, but a full renovation was not true.

Trump has repeatedly bat away accusations of racism and even claimed he was the "least racist person in the world".

The guest claimed the only significant addition to the toilet Trump would have made is the collection of hairsprays he had in the bathroom.

It was also revealed President Trump required staff to put Trump branded toiletries in the bathrooms in the White House.

The book claims: "Staff repeatedly stopped [the president] when he tried to press cash into the hands of military aides serving as valets."

Meanwhile, torn up pieces of documents were found in the toilets of the Oval House which looked similar to Trump's handwriting.

Pictures were taken of the documents left in the toilet amid claims of allegedly tearing up classified information after the January 6 Capitol Riots.

Trump overhauled the "secret bathroom" and installed a big TV along with placing bits of memorabilia in there.

A wrestling belt given to him by wrestling former wrestling promoter Vince McMahon was featured, according to the author.
