Burnley could face fresh fight to fend off Premier League interest in star man, report states

Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill is expected to draw more interest from the Premier League this winter, a report from The Athletic has said.

Burnley man Brownhill has proven a standout player for Vincent Kompany’s side in the early stages of the season.

He had impressed in the Premier League, but he’s really been freed to strut his stuff under the Belgian boss, moving into a more attacking role. The former Bristol City man has four goals and two assists to his name in 10 Championship games.

Now, an update has emerged on the previous interest in Brownhill amid his strong form.

The Athletic states that after Premier League interest in the summer, the Burnley midfielder is likely to draw the same attention again when the January transfer window rolls around in a few months’ time, and potentially in the longer term looking towards next summer too.

Brownhill has been with the Clarets since January 2020 and still has just under two years left on his contract.

When did Sean Dyche take over as Burnley manager?

One to hold onto…

The midfielder had already cemented himself as a key player at Turf Moor, but his start to the season has only affirmed how important he will be for the club going forward.

He has bags of experience at Championship level and has proven himself as a leader in the middle of the park. The fact Brownhill has started to chip in more going forward just helps things too, moving into more of an attacking role.

Burnley and Kompany will surely be aware of his importance though, so it’d be a surprise to see them let go of him in January at all.

However, if the Premier League comes calling, it will be interesting to see if they can retain their resolve and hold onto Brownhill.
