Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas slammed her fellow judges as she admitted that she was “mortified” that Loose Women star Kaye Adams was the first to leave this year’s series.

The head judge appeared on BBC’s The One show alongside Ben Shephard and hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas and discussed all things strictly including Kaye, who became the first contestant to leave on Sunday as she faced singer Matt Goss in the dance off.

Speaking on the show Shirley said: “I just felt that on the evening both couples made mistakes, but the quality of Kaye was far superior on the evening, and I was absolutely mortified that she left to be quite honest.

Strictly judge Shirley Ballas appeared on BBC’s The One show alongside GMB's Ben Shepard

“I love my fellow judges and we’re all there to do a job, but in my opinion that was one they didn’t quite get right. Sometimes I’m just delighted when they can agree and it’s not my job to send someone home. But she was - she had - the most beautiful, beautiful movement. She was fluid, and I like fluidity - so there you go.”

Elsewhere on the show Ben impressed viewers with his dance moves after revealing that he has a degree in contemporary dance.

He put his degree to the test and performed an impromptu Salsa with Shirley. When asked if he would ever appear on Strictly, Ben joked: "I don't think so. My degree in contemporary dance was very much about running around, getting naked, covering yourself in soy sauce, that sort of stuff."

However viewers insisted that the TV presenter should appear on the BBC dancing show. @see75 Tweeted: "Come on @benshephard we need to see you on next year’s #strictly!!!" @suzysasha commented: "#TheOneShow Get Ben on @bbcstrictly!"

@DebbieBlackma14 said: "Yes yes we've been desperate for @benshephard to do @bbcstrictly for years. Come on @ShirleyBallas get him on there please." While @AmyJoanne__ added: “Ben got the moves! Sign him up for strictly next year! #theoneshow.”
