A heartbroken son has spoken of his undying love for his young mother who tragically passed away just over a week ago.

Kerry Joanne Cox, from York, died in hospital on Saturday, September 24, after developing problems with her major organs, including her heart, lungs, and kidneys. The 46-year-old mother, who loved Celine Dion, Leona Lewis, Cher, and Whitney Houston first fell ill in 2020, and was told then she only had two months left to live.

But Kerry, an ever-smiling lover of Emmerdale and Coronation Street defied those odds and went on to live some of her best days. According to her son, Kerry went to enjoy life, before she died at York Hospital.

Kerry's son, Macaulay Hornby, has now paid tribute to his mother. He said: "My mum was my world and the most amazing person I knew.

"We’ve also had our ups and downs but we’ve always had each other and stayed close. She is very strong. Around two years ago she fell really ill due to drinking and was in hospital and was told she had two months to live.

"And she got through it, was out of hospital and back to her normal self. I was so proud of her for that."

Mcaulay said Kerry had a way of making people happy, and always left everybody laughing. He said: "My mum was so special to me and I knew I always had her there to talk to about anything and she would always be there with open arms.

"What I will miss most about my mum is the laughs. She was always making people feel good and making them laugh. She always came out with the most stupid but funniest things.

"She was adored by so many people and it has come as a massive shock to us all as we didn’t expect any of this to happen. I don’t really know how I feel right now one minute I feel okay then next I feel destroyed.

"This has honestly been there worse thing to ever happen to me and it’s going to absolutely kill me planning her funeral as I want to make sure it’s perfect and the best send off I could give her."

Kerry is survived by three young sons and one daughter. Her funeral is currently being arranged, and those who want to help Macaulay give his mother "the best send off" can do so by donating towards Kerry's funeral here.
