A serial mobile phone snatcher sustained bullet injuries in his leg after being shot at by cops in Noida during an encounter. Police admitted him to the hospital, recovered a two-wheeler and three mobile phones from his possession, and launched a manhunt for his aide.

Noida Additional DCP Ashutosh Dwivedi said the man, who had stolen three smartphones in Noida, was nabbed during a check on the Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad Expressway.

On being chased, the miscreant opened fire and got injured in retaliatory firing, he said.

When officials from the Sector 113 police station were conducting a checking campaign late at night, the man started running away and opened fire at the police.

During interrogation, the mobile snatcher told police that he had been stealing in Delhi-NCR for a long time.

He said he had snatched three mobile phones from Ghaziabad on that day.

The top policeman said dozens of cases were registered against him in Delhi-NCR.
