App based cab companies told to stop auto services within 3 days in Karnataka

The Karnataka transport department has issued a show cause notice to app-based cab companies to stop their auto services within 3 days. This came after commuters complained that they were charging Rs 100 as a fare even when the distance was less than 2 km.

The Karnataka government has told App-based cab companies to discontinue their auto services in the state within three days.

App-based companies like Ola, Uber and Rapido have been told to shut down the ‘auto’ service sections on their apps. These have been declared “illegal” by the Karnataka govt.

A show-cause notice has also been issued to the apps by the transportation department regarding the same.

The move by the Karnataka government comes after commuters complained to the state government that the app-based companies charged a minimum of Rs 100 for fares even when the distance was below 2 km.

As per govt norms, auto drivers should charge a fixed Rs 30 for the first 2 km and Rs 15 per km thereafter.
