A 52-year-old man was trampled to death by a domestic elephant in West Bengal’s Midnapore district on Friday. The victim, identified as Madhav Molla, was picked up and smashed to the ground after a curious mob hotly tailed the jumbo.

The incident took place around 8.30 am on Friday when the elephant, who the locals have named Ramlal, entered Dudhpathri village under Gowaltor police station in the Rupnarayan division of West Midnapore.

Witnesses told Aajtak that Ramlal was probably separated from his group, resulting in him entering the village in search of food.

The elephant was chased away and the old man was taken to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead. After the incident, there was panic in the area. However, the forest officials refused to comment on this.
