TV presenter Jonnie Irwin has given fans an update on the home he’s trying to get ready for his wife and children - and they rushed to give him some advice. The Escape to the Country host is battling terminal cancer and has been working hard on a new family home for his wife Jessica, 40 and three sons to live in.

The A Place in the Sun star from Leicestershire has posted a number of updates on the project. Sadly, he’s keen to set up his family in the property in the North East so Jessica can be near her family for support should the worst happen.

Jonnie, who was brought up in the village of Bitteswell, near Lutterworth, has been most recently trying out a new diet to ‘starve’ cancer, which he admitted was ‘bloody hard’. In the new update on the house, Jonnie, aged 49, was getting down to some building work - and a picture of himself in front of a new shower area showed there was a lot still to do.

He said: "Always thought an ensuite of the main bedroom needs to be more than a corner shower and a toilet. So I’ve extended ours into an adjacent cupboard and doubled the size to something that befits a main bedroom. Looking promising…"

Fans offered their support in reply - and some helpful tips too. Auntycarolloves said: “Looking a good size. Those corner showers with sliding doors are a nightmare to clean."

Cherry___brooks suggested: “If you are putting a bath in it might be worth considering setting into tiled surround for you to sit on. Also remember there are some awsome designs now for grab rails etc. make it easy for yourself but keep it beautiful! X”

Amandaswellbeing said: “It will be an amazing ensuite. I am looking forward to seeing the end result. I hope you are feeling OK.” Janetfrank690 added: “I am sure it will look amazing !!!! Hope you’re feeling ok Jonnie sending lots of love xxx”
