A mix of Brazilian and Coventry flair could be on show for Leicester City at Aston Villa on Saturday with Tete and James Maddison potentially in the starting line-up together.

City manager Brendan Rodgers has hinted he will select the mouth-watering combination at Villa Park, with Tete making his debut and Maddison starting a Premier League match for the first time in more than two months.

Tete, who joined City last weekend, had been playing regularly at Lyon before his move, and so is match fit. And with the new signing on the right wing, Maddison can be shuffled into a central position, which Rodgers believes will help the England international get closer to a 90-minute performance on his return from a knee injury.

For City supporters, it’s an exciting prospect, with Tete, the club’s first Brazilian, bringing his samba skills to help further unlock Maddison’s talent, which was honed just a short journey down the M69.

Rodgers said: “I always hear about Brazilian flair, but we’ve got Coventry flair as well! (Tete) plays outside, where I like wingers to be, so that they’re ready in the one-v-ones. But very importantly, he’s very good at running in behind and he can secure the ball.

“To create more chances we need to secure the ball for longer periods and he allows us to do that. His touch is immaculate. He’s got a good idea of football.

“He's got real confidence on the ball. He can see a pass, he looks to beat people, he threatens the back-line as well and he has an eye for goal. And also he’s tough. You can see in training he’s aggressive. He's a proper football player.

“I'm sure over time here they (the fans) will really enjoy watching him. I'm pretty sure it will take him a little bit of time to get up to the speed of the Premier League. But he has been playing.

“If you look at his record he is tough, robust and doesn't miss many games. He trains well. For a young guy he is super professional outside the game. He has a team of people who look after his nutrition, sports science, he is equipped to be the best player he can be, which is great to see.”

City have only won one of the eight fixtures against Premier League opponents in which Maddison hasn’t started this season. They will hope his return to the 11, potentially in a central role, sparks an upturn in form that drags them away from the relegation battle.

Rodgers said: “He has been training for a few weeks now and I’m pretty sure the next few games there will be periods he might feel a bit leggy, but he is training and moving well, he has been bright. If he is playing on the inside that will help him a little bit as well. Overall, this guy really is a top player. To have him here helping us is great.”
