Aston Villa have been given a double injury boost for this afternoon’s Premier League clash against Leicester City as Unai Emery is set to welcome back two players from injury.

City make the short journey to Villa Park for the 3pm kick off, with City looking to build on a 2-2 draw with high-flying Brighton and Hove Albion in their last Premier League outing. City also made it through to the fifth round of the FA Cup last weekend with a 1-0 win vs Walsall.

Villa’s exit from the FA Cup in the third round has given Emery extra chance to work with his players this week, and it has also given players struggling with injury extra time to step up their recovery.

New club captain John McGinn has missed the last four games in all competitions with a thigh injury, but it has been confirmed that the midfielder could make his return against City. Full-back Lucas Digne is also back in the fold after injuring his shoulder in the Premier League clash against Leeds, the Frenchman will push January signing Alex Moreno for a starting place.

Villa will still be without three players who are still recovering from longer term injuries. Summer signing Diego Carlos is stepping up his rehabilitation from a ruptured Achilles tendon - the same injury suffered by City full-back Ricardo Pereira in pre-season. It’s a similar situation for reserve goalkeeper Jed Steer who suffered the injury during a loan spell with January side Luton Town.

The third player who will be sidelined for Villa is returning loanee Bertrand Traore. The winger was recalled from his loan spell with Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir in order to be part of Villa’s squad for the remainder of the campaign.

However, the Burkina Faso international is still recovering from a knee injury picked up in December. He therefore faces another couple of weeks on the sidelines, meaning that he will not feature against City.
