If you're heading out for a meal with the family, or treating yourself to a takeaway, you'll want to be sure that the place you're buying your food from is in excellent condition. It's good to know, then, that environmental health officers from local councils inspect everywhere that serves food.
They are given a rating from zero to five - with zero being the worst and five being the top rating. The ratings are based on areas such as handling, storage and preparation of food, cleanliness of facilities and how well food safety issues are managed.
We've taken a look at the latest food hygiene ratings that have been handed out so far this year. This list, which is arranged according to the local councils which carried out the inspections, covers all the businesses inspected, from pubs and restaurants to schools and care homes.
These ratings were taken from the Food Standard Agency's list as they appeared on Wednesday, February 1.
