Leicester City’s newest star Tete sent an ominous warning to the rest of the Premier League after his barnstorming debut, saying "this is just the beginning".

The winger was in electric form in his first outing since his switch from Lyon, scoring the third of City’s four goals and exciting the away following with his superb close control and direct dribbling.

He was made to feel at home by the travelling supporters, who swamped the away end at Villa Park with Brazil flags to mark the first-ever appearance by a player from the country. A goal and a victory on his Premier League debut had the 22-year-old overjoyed and gunning for more.

“What a magical debut,” Tete wrote on social media. “I must thank God and the Leicester staff and team-mates for the opportunity to make another dream come true in my life. This is just the beginning, but I already feel part of the Foxes.”

For now, Tete is only signed up until the end of the season. The nature of his contract means that City could only bring him on a deal until June 30.

Following the outbreak of war in Ukraine, foreign players registered with Ukrainian clubs had their contracts suspended. A review will be made going into the summer to determine if that remains the case.

If so, Tete will become a free agent on July 1 and City would be able to negotiate with him, as would any other club. If Fifa state that contracts at Ukrainian clubs are no longer suspended, he becomes a Shakhtar Donetsk player again. In that case, City would have to organise a transfer fee with Shakhtar, where his contract runs until the end of the calendar year.
